Sun Tai Chi Institute of Boston

About Stanwood Chang

Stanwood Chang discovered the Chinese internal arts at the tender age of 35 and hasn't thought about much else ever since. He studies Sun style taijiquan with Thomas Duterme, Yang (Cheng Man-Ching) style taijiquan with Dr. Peter Wayne, and Chen style taijiquan with Master Wang Haijun.

Stanwood is a fourth-generation lineage holder in Sun taijiquan and a fourth-generation lineage holder in Cheng Man-Ching taijiquan. He is a graduate of the Teacher Training Program from the Tree of Life Tai Chi Center.

He established the Sun Tai Chi Institute of Boston in 2009 to preserve and transmit the traditional art of Sun taijiquan, while at the same time applying it to modern-day stresses, health issues and lifestyles.

In 2010, Stanwood launched a second taiji school featuring Chen taijiquan, Silk Reeling.

He also continues to teach at the Tree of Life Tai Chi Center, and teaches the Tree of Life curriculum at the following locations:

Current Medical Studies

Stanwood is currently involved in the BEAM COPD Study, a joint venture between Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the VA Hospital. This three-year project is studying the effect of taijiquan movements, breathing exercises and educational content on patients with COPD (Chronic Obstructed Pulmonary Disease).
