Curriculum
Sun Taijiquan Fundamentals and Qigong
This foundational class at the Sun Tai Chi Institute of Boston is the gateway to the taijiquan universe. Essential concepts, theories and principles are discussed in depth. Students begin to explore their body, breath, mind and qi circulation with many different qigong and warm-up exercises, plus meditation.
Specific to Sun style taijiquan, students are introduced to the basic characteristics of hand movements and the different types of footwork.
Four postures from the Sun taijiquan Long Form are isolated, broken down into great detail and imprinted through repetition.
- Kai Shou/He Shou (Open Hands/Close Hands)
- Dan Bian (Single Whip)
- Lou Xi Ao Bu (Brush the Knee and Step)
- Yun Shou (Cloud Hands)
Finally, students learn the first five movements of the form as a prelude to the Sun Taijiquan Long Form class:
- Wu Ji (Beginning Posture: the "Primordial Void")
- Tai Ji (Opening Posture)
- Lan Zha Yi (Lazily Tying the Coat)
- Kai Shou/He Shou (Open Hands/Close Hands)
- Dan Bian (Single Whip)
